The resolution failed to pass the U.S. House of Representatives on a 212-219 vote with four Democrats defecting to vote against the measure.

All of Alabama‘s House Republican members voted against the resolution including Rep. Robert Aderholt, Rep. Barry Moore, Rep. Gary Palmer, Rep. Dale Strong and Rep. Mike Rogers.

The state’s two Democratic lawmakers, Rep. Terri Sewell and Rep. Shomari Figures, both voted in favor of the measure.

“President Trump started a war with Iran without congressional approval and without a plan to address the fallout,” Figures said in a statement. “American soldiers have already tragically died. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that the President does not force us further into this conflict, with no clear objective or timeline, resulting in the loss of more American troops.”

The Senate voted down a war powers resolution on Wednesday primarily along party lines also.

The outcome allows Trump to continue pursuing military operations against Iran after the U.S. and Israel launched a joint military operation against the country over the weekend.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high ranking government officials were killed in the strikes deemed as acts of war.

After initially claiming the operations against Iran to oust the current regime would take four weeks, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Wednesday it may take up to eight weeks.

As a result of the conflict many people have already died including hundreds of children in Iran and several U.S. military members.
