WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (D-AL-02) joined Congressman Addison McDowell (R-NC-06) in a bipartisan effort to help young children who stutter receive early intervention. The Kidd’s Stuttering Act will add mandatory stuttering screenings for children ages two to six and guarantee Medicaid and CHIP coverage for speech-therapy services.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) announced a $1 million for the Jackson Health Care Authority to support infrastructure improvements and equipment upgrades at Jackson Medical Center. The funding was a direct result of Congressman Figures’ FY’2026 appropriations request that will be used by the City of Jackson to address critical healthcare needs. The Congressman celebrated the award with Jackson Mayor Audra Raybon this week during a meeting they held to discuss the health and economic priorities of his constituents.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) led a moment of silence honoring Lt. Col. George E. Hardy – the last surviving combat pilot of the Tuskegee Airmen who passed away on September 25, 2025 at 100 years old.
He was joined by Alabama Senator Katie Britt, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, members of the Alabama House Delegation, and bipartisan Members of Congress. House Speaker Mike Johnson presided over the proceedings.

WASHINGTON – Today, in recognition of Veterans Day, Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) introduced bipartisan legislation to designate the U.S. Postal Service facility at 401 North Elm Street in Tuskegee, Alabama, as the “Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Post Office”. The legislation follows a series of actions Congressman Figures has taken to support veterans and military families during his first year in Congress.

WASHINGTON – Today, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure passed Rep. Shomari C. Figures’ bipartisan bill, the Enhancing Science, Treatment, and Upkeep of America’s Resilient and Important Estuarine Systems (ESTUARIES Act) to reauthorize the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Estuary Program (NEP) through 2031.
WASHINGTON – Today, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure passed the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Reform Act, which includes the bipartisan Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Act introduced in July by Reps. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) and Chuck Edwards (NC-11).
