Figures’ Bipartisan Bill to Rename Post Office After Tuskegee Airmen Passes Committee

“The Tuskegee Airmen were national heroes and trailblazers who had an undeniable, lasting impact on our country, and renaming this post office is a meaningful way to bring attention to our history and honor their legacy,” said Congressman Figures. “I want to thank Congressman Gary Palmer for his work to advance my bipartisan bill to honor these brave soldiers through the Oversight Committee. I look forward to it eventually passing the House and becoming law.” 

 

The Tuskegee Airmen are among Alabama and America’s most celebrated service members. The Airmen were comprised of African American pilots and support personnel who trained at Tuskegee Army Airfield and fought bravely during World War II. They not only defended our nation and the freedom of those abroad, but broke racial barriers, played an influential role in the desegregation of the U.S. military, and paved the way for future generations of servicemembers and leaders. 

Figures’ bill would designate the Tuskegee Post Office at 401 North Elm Street as the “Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Post Office.”
