Figures Seeks Answers From Veterans Affairs Secretary After Reports Of Service Issues at VA Facilities in Alabama

February 27, 2025

WASHINGTON – Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) sent a letter today to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins requesting a meeting and information about recent reports of layoffs of employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and their impact on facilities in the State of Alabama, including Mobile, Montgomery and Tuskegee.

“It is imperative that we have a full understanding of the scale and scope of the layoffs in Alabama, as we have become aware that these layoffs have already begun to significantly affect operations,” Figures wrote. “The impact these issues are having on the quality of care and services is deeply concerning. I believe addressing this matter is critical to ensuring our veterans receive the care they deserve. These individuals have selflessly served our country, and it is our responsibility to ensure they are not burdened further by delays or service interruptions.”

In today’s letter, Figures requested the VA Secretary provide a list by March 7, 2025, of VA employees in Alabama who have been laid off or are anticipated to be laid off.

Figures requested the meeting happen by March 14, 2025.
