Figures Announces $8.5 Million to Fix Runway at the Montgomery Airport

August 14, 2026

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, announced that over $8.5 million in federal funding has been awarded for renovations and improvements at the Montgomery Regional Airport.

The funding will help strengthen core airport infrastructure while enhancing safety and operational efficiency. These improvements are critical to ensuring the airport can meet current needs, maintain compliance with federal standards, and support continued growth in passenger travel and business activity.

“I'm thrilled to see our community receive significant federal support and investment with over $8.5 million in federal funding,” said Congressman Figures. “The Montgomery Regional Airport is essential to our local, state and regional economy, and this funding will help to make necessary infrastructure updates to improve conditions at the airport and ensure its long-term viability.”
The $8,506,686 in federal funding comes through a Department of Transportation grant and will go toward rehabilitating over 9,000 feet of existing runway to enhance structural integrity, minimize debris, and extend the useful lifetime of the runway.
Congressman Figures sent a letter of support for the Montgomery Regional Airport to receive this funding in January of this year. To read the letter of support, click here
