Figures Honors Mobile Natives and Baseball Legends Hank Aaron and Satchel Paige in His First Congressional Baseball Game
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) will honor baseball legends and fellow Mobile, Alabama natives Hank Aaron and Satchel Paige by wearing their jerseys during this year’s Congressional Baseball Game for Charity. The tribute recognizes Aaron’s and Paige’s legacy both on and off the field, as the Congressman joins colleagues for this storied bipartisan tradition in Washington, D.C.
“Mobile’s rich baseball history is well-documented,” said Rep. Figures. “Hank Aaron and Satchel Paige are two of the greatest players ever to play the game, and I am thrilled to take the field tonight in their respective jerseys.”
The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity is a bipartisan tradition dating back to 1909, where members of the U.S. House and Senate face off in a friendly competition that raises money for local charities.
Mobile is the birthplace of five members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame: Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige, Ozzie Smith, Billy Williams and Willie McCovey.
