WASHINGTON — Today, Representatives Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) and Jefferson Shreve (IN-06) introduced the Rural Animal Shelter Investment Act, bipartisan legislation to help rural animal shelters access existing federal funding to build, expand, or improve their facilities.
Animal shelters play an important role in rural communities. They rescue and care for animals, support public health, and often fill gaps where veterinary services are limited.

Figures (AL-02), a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, announced that he secured $2.39 million in funding for projects across Alabama’s 2nd District as a part of his continued effort to protect and strengthen rural communities. The funding, which will be awarded to the City of Tuskegee, Crenshaw County, and the Health Care Authority of the City of Eufaula was requested and secured by Congressman Figures during the annual appropriations process.
