WASHINGTON – This week, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) marked 100 days since he was sworn in as a member of the 119th Congress. He has worked to push for policies that will improve the lives of people in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, while also fighting back on the Trump Administration’s harmful decisions that will negatively impact the lives of his constituents.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) issued the following statement after he voted no on the Republican continuing resolution:
“A traditional continuing resolution would fund the government at the current levels. This continuing resolution does not do that. I voted against this bill because it jeopardizes the well-being of our seniors, veterans and families, with no assurances that President Trump won’t freeze this funding again.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) issued the following statement today after voting against the House Republicans’ FY2025 budget resolution:
“The House Republicans’ budget sends a clear message to hardworking Americans: we do not care about you or your family. I voted against this bill because I cannot support a budget that adds nearly $2 trillion to the national deficit while cutting critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP that is a lifeline for millions of Americans.
WASHINGTON – Democratic leadership has announced that Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) will serve as the Vice Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture.
Figures will be the number two Democrat on the subcommittee that will be at the center of addressing key nutritional issues in the United States, including in Alabama, and defending funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that many District 2 residents rely on.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) announced today that he is a lead co-sponsor for the Cover Outstanding Vulnerable Expansion-Eligible Residents Now (COVER Now) Act to expand health care coverage to millions of Americans who remain uninsured due to state-level refusals to accept federal Medicaid expansion funds.
