“Today, I was saddened to learn of the death of a true hometown hero, legendary trailblazer, family friend, and mentor: Alexis Herman.

WASHINGTON – Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) issued the following statement after he voted no on the Republican continuing resolution:
“A traditional continuing resolution would fund the government at the current levels. This continuing resolution does not do that. I voted against this bill because it jeopardizes the well-being of our seniors, veterans and families, with no assurances that President Trump won’t freeze this funding again.
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) spoke on the House Floor to condemn the Trump Administration’s efforts to sell the historic Montgomery Greyhound Bus Station which houses the Freedom Rides Museum. This museum honors the legacy of John Lewis and other young civil rights activists who were nearly killed at the Montgomery bus station while trying to exercise their constitutional rights.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) and Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) sent a letter today calling for the immediate removal of the Freedom Rides Museum from the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) list of properties slated for sale.
WASHINGTON – Ahead of the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) joined Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) and House Democrats to introduce H.R. 14, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. This bill would restore and modernize protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) and prevent states with a history of voter discrimination from erecting new barriers to the ballot box.
WASHINGTON – In a heartfelt floor statement, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) condemned President Donald J. Trump and Republicans for treating federal workers as statistics and not as human beings.
Figures also called out Republicans' hypocrisy in their fiscal priorities, highlighting the absurdity of cuts to essential jobs while taxpayer dollars continue to be spent on Trump’s frequent trips to Mar-a-Lago.

Figures (AL-02), spoke on the House floor to address the recent decision by the Trump Administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals in the United States. Highlighting the dire conditions in Haiti, including rampant gang violence, government instability, Figures urged the Administration to reconsider its stance and extend protection to those fleeing these life-threatening circumstances.
