Figures (AL-02), alongside Representatives Tim Kennedy (NY-26) and Jill Tokuda (HI-02), held a press conference to introduce the Loan Equity for Advanced Professionals (LEAP) Act that they are co-leading. The bill corrects a disparity made in H.R. 1, the Republican-led reconciliation bill, which drastically reduced borrowing power for advanced degree essential health students such as nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and public health workers, while leaving limits for other professionals untouched.

Figures (D- AL-02) and Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ-02), as members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, introduced the Bus Operator Safety and Security Act, bipartisan legislation designed to improve safety and security for frontline bus operators. The bill will require new federally funded buses to include protective barriers around operator workstations, and is a direct response to an alarming national rise in reported assaults on bus operators and transit.

WASHINGTON –Today, Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02), a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, announced that he secured $2.39 million in funding for projects across Alabama’s 2nd District as a part of his continued effort to protect and strengthen rural communities. The funding, which will be awarded to the City of Tuskegee, Crenshaw County, and the Health Care Authority of the City of Eufaula was requested and secured by Congressman Figures during the annual appropriations process.
