MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) — U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures is urging President Donald Trump to approve Alabama’s request for a major disaster declaration following Hurricane Isaias, according to his office.
Figures sent a letter Oct. 24 supporting Gov. Kay Ivey’s Oct. 23 request. He pointed to damage across southern Alabama, including several Wiregrass counties.
U.S. Representative Shomari Figures, D-Alabama, announced Monday that the National Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed his legislation to cover college and job-training costs for the children of law enforcement officers, other first responders, educators and social workers.
Figures’ bill, the Public Service Educational Assistance Act, would cover the cost of college and job training for the children of law enforcement officers, other first responders, educators and social workers.

Figures (AL-02) and Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) introduced the Registration Enforcement for Vehicle Operations of Known Evaders (REVOKE) Act, which will strengthen Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) authority to prevent chameleon carriers from exploiting USDOT registration systems to illegally operate on American roads.
