WASHINGTON - Today, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02), spoke on the House floor to address the recent decision by the Trump Administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals in the United States. Highlighting the dire conditions in Haiti, including rampant gang violence, government instability, Figures urged the Administration to reconsider its stance and extend protection to those fleeing these life-threatening circumstances.

“The House Republicans’ budget sends a clear message to hardworking Americans: we do not care about you or your family. I voted against this bill because I cannot support a budget that adds nearly $2 trillion to the national deficit while cutting critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP that is a lifeline for millions of Americans.

WASHINGTON – Democratic leadership has announced that Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) will serve as the Vice Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture. 

Figures will be the number two Democrat on the subcommittee that will be at the center of addressing key nutritional issues in the United States, including in Alabama, and defending funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that many District 2 residents rely on.

"The Air Force removing the Tuskegee Airmen from training videos is pathetic, disgraceful, and disrespectful, not only to the brave fighter pilots who saved the Allied Forces in World War II, but to the City of Tuskegee and the entire State of Alabama. It is a slap in the face of the heroic Black men who risked and sacrificed their lives on the front lines in defense of a country that still made them sit in the back of the bus when they returned home.
