Thank you, President Ross, the Board of Trustees, deans, members of the faculty and staff, alumni, family and friends, the history-making basketball team that won an NCAA tournament game for the first time in school history, and most importantly the class of 2025; it is an honor to be with you today. 

 

We are all here not only to celebrate the hard-earned accomplishments of these graduates, but to recognize the promise of a future that they, with their intelligence, passion, and perseverance, are about to shape.

WASHINGTON – This week, Rep. Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) marked 100 days since he was sworn in as a member of the 119th Congress. He has worked to push for policies that will improve the lives of people in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, while also fighting back on the Trump Administration’s harmful decisions that will negatively impact the lives of his constituents.  


OVERVIEW

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that it is issuing $10 billion in direct assistance to help farmers offset rising production costs and declining commodity prices through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP).

Congressman Figures is currently accepting appropriations requests for congressional directed spending for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26). Through this process, Congressman Figures advocates for programs that support Alabama’s Second Congressional District. 

The request portal will remain open until 5:00 pm ET on Monday, April 21, 2025. 

Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis after the deadline.
